Gambling Sites: Legal or Illegal?

Online gambling is any type of betting conducted over the internet. This includes casinos, poker and online sports betting among many others. The first online gambling site opened for the public, was ticket selling for the first Liechtenstein International Poker Tournament in October 1994.

The reason these sites offer gambling services over the internet stems from the fact that it is a lot easier to transact money over the internet as opposed to having to maintain a casino-type establishment. For instance, you can transfer funds to your online gambling account from one of your credit cards or bank accounts with ease. Also, there are no taxes involved when you play online. There is no sales tax, property tax or income tax involved. Also, since the transactions are all done online, no face-to-face interaction is necessary, making online gambling sites popular among the elderly and the busy working adult population.

One thing you should be careful about is using an online gambling site for illegal activity. While it is true that there are some unscrupulous individuals that will use this service to run scams, it is also true that there are some legitimate websites that can offer you the services you need while at the same time remain fully compliant with all of the existing laws. Some people become skeptical of any online service that does not ask for identification such as a credit card number. Legitimate online gambling sites will never ask you for this information upfront. They also will never sell your information to third parties, or tell you that you cannot gamble online because doing so would violate federal law. It is also important to note that if you are running an online gambling site, you are required by law to provide proof that you are legal at the site, and that you are not violating any state laws.
